Baldevgarh Fort is located on Tikamgarh-Chhatarpur Road, about 26 kms from Tikamgarh town in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Situated above the Gwal Sagar Lake, the Fort Baleogarh from its top gives you a panaromic view the nearby town, the series of ramparts, arched gateways, and cylindrical bastions of the forts and other existing structures of Bundeli-Era.

It was as month of June when I visited Baldeogarh, It was solo road trip which starts from Gwalior passed through Jaurasi, Datia (Sonagir), Orchha and Tikamgarh.
By noon, I arrived in Tikamgarh and immediately noticed the Circuit House—a colonial-style bungalow that stands prominently in the Civil Lines area of the city.

Later in the day, I had the opportunity to visit Mahendra Sagar Lake, locally known as Taal Kothi, in Tikamgarh. Interestingly, its serene waters and historical charm added a refreshing layer to the journey.

It was not a planned trip but a surprisingly halt at Baldeogarh when I was passing for Khajuraho from Tikamgarh.

If you really are a explorer then the charisma of Baldeogarh Fort will draw your attention to stop, look and spend some time there.
History of Baldevgarh Fort
According to the Madhya Pradesh Archaeology Archives and Museum, historians identified Baldevgarh as “Bandha” during the Chandela period because a large tank dammed in the area gave it its name. Maharaja Vikramaditya Singh Bundela built the fort between 1776 and 1817. In 1783 AD, he shifted his capital from Orchha to Tikamgarh and established the fort as a strategic military base, equipping it with facilities to store war materials and bolster his defense operations.

The fort features six cylindrical bastions on each tier, multi-foiled arches, terraced balconies, and intricate Bundela-style motifs. A palace complex crowns the summit, once echoing with royal life. There is a tank on the three sides of the rampart of the fort and on the fourth side there is a hill and a forest land.

Baldevgarh Fort in Madhya Pradesh reflects the region’s rich history with its old walls and timeless charm. It becomes especially lively during the Chaitra Navratri and Sharadiya Navratri Fair, when many pilgrims visit the Vindhyavasini Devi Temple inside the fort.
Amid prayers and colorful celebrations, a historic cannon known as Garbh Giravan & Bhawani Shankar Cannons stands as a reminder of the battles that once took place here. Witnesses claimed that the cannon’s thunderous blast on the battlefield triggered miscarriages among expectant mothers.
